‘Nowhere in Europe offers everything Portsmouth does’

CONDOR Ferries has spoken out following a protest outside Portsmouth International Port.

Members of the RMT union organised a protest on Tuesday, and will hold another this weekend, against the company’s payment of Ukrainian workers.

A spokeswoman for the company said: ‘Around 90 per cent of our crew are from the EU, the majority being British or French nationals, and are paid accordingly.

‘However a small minority of crew who live aboard our conventional ferries are recruited from Ukraine – a highly regarded seafaring nation.

‘The pay, terms and conditions for all employees meet or exceed all the requirements of international employment regulations and worker protection, and many crew members return to work with us, in preference to other employment opportunities.’
