Box mad businessman sets up new environmentally-friendly hire service BoxMyStuff to help house movers to ditch cardboard

The 42-year-old came up with his latest brainwave while the country was on lockdown and work slowed with his same-day business courier service.

He said: ‘When we went into lockdown, the business went very quiet so I was thinking about what to do and how to diversify. I saw another company doing a similar thing and thought that it sounded like a great idea - and that it would work in Fareham.’

Inspired by his lockdown research, he has now launched a sustainable moving box hire service called BoxMyStuff.

The business supplies eco-friendly moving boxes, which are made from recycled plastic and are reusable hundreds of times over, making moving easier and faster than using traditional cardboard moving boxes.

BoxMyStuff delivers the ready-to-use boxes - which are stackable, nestable and won’t get squashed - complete with labels, to customer’s doors.

The boxes are then collected from the customer’s new home.

The service operates within a 20-mile radius of Fareham, covering areas around Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Petersfield with plans to expand.

James, of Paxton Road, Fareham, said: ‘I needed to diversify to continue to grow the business and this seemed a perfect solution.

‘Apart from making moving easier and faster for our customers - they are in fact four times faster to pack than cardboard - the best part is, is that it is a sustainable business.

‘It’s a no-brainer really, the boxes make your life easier when you move and you get to save the planet at the same time by reducing waste from single use cardboard boxes.’

The boxes, which can be used for home and office moves or temporary storage, come with flexible hire – customers can change or extend hire dates if needed.

James, dad to 20-month old Jack, set up Kendall Couriers in September 2019 after working as a franchisee for a same-day courier service. He left a career in catering to move into courier services in 2016.

He said: ‘I am trying to give people a different option. Every one I speak to says it is a good idea. It is a different solution to what people are used to – but it makes moving easier and it is more environmentally friendly.’
