THE cost of moving to property in Portsmouth is almost £900, new research has revealed.
When tenants move home they must usually pay their new landlords a deposit against damage or other cost incurred while living at their new address, and by law landlords must protect this money with an authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme.
Figures from The Deposit Protection Service’s (The DPS) quarterly Tenancy Deposit Ratings show people renting a property in the PO postcode area between April and June had to put down on average £892.15 as a deposit when moving in – eight per cent cheaper than the national average during the same period.
The research also showed the average deposit for properties in Portsmouth was £70.99 cheaper than those in Southampton and £44.84 cheaper than during the preceding quarter.
But they were still £29.50 – or 3.42 per cent – more expensive than during the same period, April to June, in 2015.
