TENANTS are being sought for a country pub that is owned by the community.
The directors of the Fox & Hounds, in Denmead, are looking for someone to take on the running of the 120-year-old watering hole which was saved from the bulldozers through a massive community buy-out.
More than £550,000 is needed to pay back the original loan to buy the pub and the rest is for the renovation work.
Generous residents of the village have already pledged and donated huge amounts.
Now it is time to start recruiting for the summer opening.
Rob Stark, one of the directors of the co-operative, said: ‘The incoming tenant or leaseholder must concentrate on restoring the pub’s reputation for a warm atmosphere and comfortable surroundings.
‘They will need to develop a pub that supplies top class, locally sourced products.
‘We also see a requirement for a meeting place for various community activities.’
Earlier this month more than 100 people helped clear out the pub ready for the work to begin.
