CPR training session prompts firms to buy a defibrillator

SOMETIMES a few seconds is all it takes to save a life. That was the lesson learnt from a CPR training session at 1000 Lakeside, which also showed people how to use a defibrillator.

Following this, some were inspired to buy a defibrillator for their workplace, including Hampshire Endodontics in East Street, Havant, which now has an machine it shares with the Prince George Dental Practice.

Owner Peter Rafferty, 36, said: ‘I was starting to see defibrillators in every public place I visited – airports, shops and so forth.’

The cost was £1,100, which included the defibrillator and a secure box for it to be stored in.

He said: ‘Although it’s an expensive investment, it’s worthwhile if it is able to save someone’s life. It is placed just outside the main entrance to the dental practice.

‘By doing this, it means it can be accessed by members of the public in an emergency, or after we close for the day.

‘I rang around local dental practices, of which there are quite a few, and that’s how I came into contact with the Prince George Dental Practice. We created a partnership and will share the defibrillator between us.’
