A BOOM in cruising is helping to bolster Portsmouth’s economy, according to latest figures.

Research shows that Britons took more than 1.7m cruise holidays last year, with the UK being Europe’s biggest cruise market, according to the Cruise Lines International Association.

It also said that the cruise industry now recruits more than 66,000 staff, up 3.5 per cent on last year.

CLIA director Andy Harmer said: ‘These figures demonstrate the continued and growing strength of the British cruise market.’
