D-Day over plans to set up lapdance venue
A DECISION was set to be made today on whether a lapdancing venue could be set up in Southsea's Albert Road.
Portsmouth City Council’s planning committee was set to examine Elegance’s plans to move from Granada Road into the shopping street.
Opinion is mixed over the bid to redevelop the first floor of the former Southsea Conservative Club.
Hundreds of people have signed a petition against the plans, but letters have also been sent in to the council urging them to agree to it as it’s a business which should be allowed to flourish so long as it’s legal.
Planning officers have sided with supporters and recommended it be approved.
They say the proposal ‘would not give rise to harm to the character or amenity of the area’.
In a report going to the committee, officers state: ‘The nature of the proposed use is such that it is considered reasonable and necessary to impose a planning condition restricting the hours of use to between the proposed 9pm and 4am.’
