SALES at the new Debenham’s store in Fareham have beaten all expectations for its first month of trading.

In the weeks since store manager Andrew Birt opened the doors to customers in May, more than 4,200 pieces of women’s underwear have flown off the rails.

More than 1,000 dresses have been snapped up, as have 1,600 bottles of fragrance and around 1,500 pieces of swimwear.

More than 1,100 men’s T-shirts have been bought, as well as 3,900 pairs of socks.

Mr Birt said: ‘It’s been an exciting first few weeks and we’re very grateful to everyone who has supported our new store so far.

‘Sales have surpassed all expectations and the customer response has been very positive.’
