Decision to move Post Office is criticised

A COUNCILLOR has voiced frustration at the decision to move Fareham's Post Office into a WHSmith store.

Councillor Shaun Cunningham, who represents the Liberal Democrats on Fareham Borough Council, said the ‘public has been left the loser in the drive for profit’ after the Post Office announced it would close its West Street unit and move services on to the first floor of the WHSmith building in the same street.

The decision followed a seven-week consultation with the public.

Cllr Cunningham said: ‘The Post Office, an organisation which should put the public’s thoughts at the heart of their customer service, actually pay lip service to their own consultation exercise.

‘The decision is driven not by customer service but the desire to save money. Once again the public is the loser in the drive for profit.’
