DEDICATED employees are one of the reasons for a good track record at a water company, officials have said.

Portsmouth Water received 236 complaints in the year to March 2014 – the lowest in the industry.

There were 84 fewer complaints than the previous year.

The Havant-based company received eight written complaints per 10,000 customers. The average is 40 per 10,000 customers.

The figures were revealed in the Consumer Council for Water’s annual report.

Paul Barfoot, head of retail at Portsmouth Water, said: ‘I am really pleased that, once again, we have the lowest level of complaints in the industry. Our overall record sits impressively above the rest of the industry.

‘This is testament to our team of dedicated employees who are firmly committed to our vision of delivering excellence and delivering the best customer service we can.

‘However we are not resting on our laurels and we continually strive to improve our service to customers. For example our new billing system now allows our customers much more flexibility in how they can pay their water bill.’
