The Denmead business which is selling gin and tonic flavour cupcakes '“ and booming!

WHEN mother-of-two Michelle Wilding mulled over what raffle prize to take to a pal's Macmillan coffee morning in 2015 '“ she had a brainwave.

Inspired by The Great British Bake Off she opted for a bespoke, culinary contribution in the form of gin and tonic flavour cupcakes.

They went down a hit and, unexpectedly, changed her life.

'˜My friends loved them and they all said to me 'Michelle, you should sell these',' the 32-year-old from Denmead said.

'˜So I went home that night and I wondered what I would call myself if I did.

'˜I set up a Facebook page called the Boozy Bakers and quite quickly I received two or three orders.'

After setting up a website herself, that trio of orders ballooned and Michelle quit her job in charity marketing after six months to get in the kitchen full-time.

Three years later, her dream lives on '“ and business has boomed this month thanks to a cupcake commission from drinks giant Echo Falls.

'˜They contacted me and asked if I could make some cakes using their new Fruit Fusion wine range, so I made, decorated and delivered 360 cupcakes for the launch in London,' Michelle said.

'˜Those then got shared online by OK! and Hello! and that has given us a big boost since.'

Thanks to help from friends and her husband Richard, Michelle's sweet-treat empire produces 72 cupcakes every 20 minutes and has now catered for a number of corporations.

And upon reflection, she said she couldn't be happier.

'˜I work many more hours than I used to, but I absolutely love what I do '“ it's great to be in control of my own future,' she said.
