PERMISSION has been granted for a large shopping and residential development to be built near Hedge End.

Property developer Town Quay Developments has been given the go ahead to build a 89,449 sq ft Next Home and Garden store and 41 homes at Wildern Mill.

The scheme will create around 130 construction jobs while the homes and store are built, and the store will employ up to 250 people when it opens next year, rising to 290 with extra seasonal employment.

Town Quay Developments director Alex Hunt said: ‘The plans will see a derelict site demolished to make way for a sustainable, mixed use development that will provide valuable local employment and good quality housing.’

Work on the development is due to begin in June, with completion next spring.
