FABRICS which warn you if you’re spending too long in the sun, buildings that tell you if they’re at risk of moving and games to help employability are just some of the recent extraordinary advancements led by a professor at the University of Portsmouth. Professor Joan Farrer, who specialises in design and innovation, will be exploring at a public lecture how design thinking and creatively working across traditional subject borders can give rise to some unexpected results.

It will be held at the university’s Portland building on Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm. It will be followed by a drinks reception.
