MORE than 10,000 divorcees in the Portsmouth area could be entitled to claim thousands of pounds.

According to figures from the Office of National Statistics, that is the number of divorcees whose pension settlements were undervalued during their divorce.

LifeLine, a divorce and pension service, is working with some of those affected to help them claim money back from the solicitors they used for their divorce.

Tony Derbyshire, managing director at LifeLine, said: ‘Calculating the true value of a pension is actually very difficult.

‘It is easy to get the value wrong without the advice of an independent financial advisor or actuary.

‘Divorce is one of life’s most stressful events, without the added stress of your divorce lawyer neglecting to protect your best interests.

‘This is not about returning to the emotional turmoil of divorce; it is about ensuring divorcees are treated fairly and receive the true pension value to which they are entitled.’
