The Co-op’s newest food store is on Southleigh Road and will open on July 13 following a £1m investment. The site was previously home to a convenience store which closed nearly two years ago.

After discovering the location, bosses at The Co-op said they were eager to set up shop.

The new store will create 17 jobs and should provide a funding boost to local community groups through the companies membership scheme. Members will receive a five per cent reward upon purchase of own-branded products and services with a further one per cent benefitting good causes.

Local groups already set to benefit include Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal, Hampshire Teenage Project and the Portsmouth Hospitals Charity. Students with an NUS extra card will also benefit, receiving 10 per cent off of their groceries.

The store has doubled in size and will offer an in-store bakery and plans to focus on fresh foods and healthy meal ideas. The business actively promotes its passion for the community it’s love for local food and drink.

Area manager for the Co-op Nigel Wicks said: ‘We are thrilled to have made such a significant investment in Emsworth and look forward to serving the local community. Our members can make a difference locally by swiping their membership card when they shop with us. This will raise funding for organisations in the area who contribute to improving local life.’

Emsworth locals are invited to meet the team and preview the store on July 12 between 6pm to 8pm.
