ENROLMENT for electrical apprenticeships has started at a training centre.
Portchester-based Steve Willis Training Centre is taking on apprentices in September for its new electrical course.
People have already started enrolling for the apprenticeship alongside its gas course.
The firm in East Street is encouraging other businesses in the area to utilise the skills of their apprentices and give them necessary experience.
Steve Willis, managing director of Steve Willis Training, said: ‘We see the value in offering apprenticeships.
‘This is why we are keen to expand what we offer at our Portchester centre.
‘These days, many people think it’s far better to learn a trade that will set you up for life rather than go to university.
‘It is good to know that we can offer that opportunity to anyone 16 years and over.
‘We also give employers help in finding apprentices and vice versa which makes things a little easier.’
He added that it is great news for the local area and offers companies the chance to employ school leavers and receive government funding for their training.
Companies with less than 50 employees may be entitled to receive a grant of £1,500 per apprentice.
Mr Willis added: ‘There is more good news with apprentices.
‘From April 6, employers will not have to pay their employers Class 1 secondary National Insurance Contributions for employees under the age of 21.
‘It’s yet another reason to take on an apprentice.
‘So why not take the plunge?’
Steve Willis Training carries higher success rates than other colleges in the area with an industry-recognised qualification in the apprentices chosen trade.
