A CONSTRUCTION firm has been awarded hundreds of thousands of pounds for vital jobs.

Portsmouth-based Mountjoy has been given £746,000 by English Heritage to undertake conservation work in the Swiss Cottage Quarter of Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

The regeneration work, being carried out by Mountjoy’s operational team, is scheduled for completion in April.

The scope of works includes internal and external repairs to the replica Swiss Cottage, the museum building and Gazelle House.

Karl Hawthorn, contract manager at Mountjoy, said: ‘It is an amazing privilege to be involved in such a unique and historically significant project at the private Isle of Wight home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

‘A collaborative approach is essential on a project of this nature.’
