CATERING students have cooked up a storm at a competition.
Every member of the 19-strong Fareham College team at the Wessex Salon Culinaire 2011 was awarded merits, bronze or silver awards.
The event was held at the Bournemouth International Centre as part of the Hotel and Catering Show.
Students were picked to attend the show after passing tests at the college. They had to show commitment and enthusiasm and then go through a practical test to qualify.
Students were divided into teams which covered napkin folding, a table lay-up for two with a menu and wine choice for four courses, cocktails and coffee, classic cuts of potatoes and vegetables and preparation of fish, chicken, lamb and scallop dishes.
All tasks had to be completed against the clock and were evaluated by experts.
Neil Jones, head of hospitality, travel and tourism at the college, said: ‘The standard of work at the competition was very high indeed and all the work and effort put in by the staff and students clearly paid off.’
