THE Fareham branch of business Opus International Consultants has been given an award for refurbishing a Victorian pier.

The firm has won the Peter Mason Award for Engineering Excellence by the National Piers Society for its work on Mumbles Pier, which is near Swansea in Wales.

The work involved designing a new lifeboat house and slipway at the head of the pier for the use of the RNLI. The boathouse provides accommodation for the boat and crew and has visitor facilities.
