A TRIP to do the weekly shopping left one lucky man with a new £10,000 car.

Mahmud Miah, from Fareham, had entered the free prize draw which was running throughout March at the new Tesco store in Fareham town centre.

Along with four other lucky shoppers, Mr Miah was invited to the shop for the final on Saturday.

And after picking an envelope giving him the chance to have first try at choosing one of five keys which could unlock the Ford Ka Edge, Mr Miah got it right first time.

The 58-year-old said: ‘At first I thought it was an April Fool prank and got the shock of my life when I was hand-picked to take part in the store’s win a car final.

‘On the way to the final I told my family I wish I get number one, otherwise I’ll be happy with the £100 Tesco Gift card.

‘When I opened my envelope and it was number one inside I couldn’t believe it – I was quite happy. Then when I stepped forward to pick a key and it actually opened the car I was so excited, it made my day – I simply can’t believe my luck.’

There were more than 4,000 entries to the store’s free prize draw promotion, with Wave 105’s Mark Collins hosting the live final.

Store manager Jon Roberts, said: ‘The atmosphere has been brilliant throughout the free prize draw promotion – but this was definitely the highlight. We have received so much positive response from customers who have absolutely loved it.

‘We are thrilled for Mahmud and really pleased Tesco was able to give this striking new car away. I would like to thank everyone who took part.’

The four runners-up picked up a £100 Tesco gift card each.
