HAMPSHIRE Fare, which promotes local food in the county, has been awarded a share in a £200,000 grant from the Prince’s Countryside Fund.

Prince Charles made the announcement yesterday, at The Great Yorkshire Show.

Hampshire Fare won the grant for its application to ‘Preserve the Hampshire Hog’ – a symbol of the county’s pig farmers whose livelihoods are under threat.

The grant will be used by Hampshire Fare to help farmers diversify into the cured meat business and develop a new marque, as well as to sell the new products at local events and to restaurants.

The money will also help pay for initial training and marketing costs.
