MORE than 3,000 homes have received superfast broadband thanks to a government scheme.

Thousands of homes across the Meon Valley now have faster internet connections.

George Hollingbery, MP for the area, said latest figures indicate that around 6,985 properties in the Meon Valley will receive the service by June 2017 under the £1.7bn programme.

He said: ‘This news is very welcome indeed and will be a boost to local businesses in the constituency.

‘As I have said for many years, if rural Hampshire and the Meon Valley is going to thrive in this very competitive world it must have high technology tools at its disposal.’

Around £15m has been allocated to improve broadband in Hampshire.
