Final plans for upgrade of roundabout to be unveiled

FINAL plans for the £7.1m revamp of a major roundabout will go on show.

Members of the public are invited to a drop-in session outlining the final phase of works on the Asda roundabout at Bedhampton.

The improvement work is designed to increase capacity at the roundabout and reduced congestion at peak times.

Councillor Sean Woodward, in charge of transport at Hampshire County Council, said: ‘I’d like to thank people for bearing with us so far, while we have been carrying out this scheme.

‘Progress has not been as fast as we would have liked as we have encountered some issues with uncharted underground utilities which need to be moved.

‘We’re hoping to speed up completion of the scheme by doing the resurfacing part of the work overnight, after Easter.’

Residents will be able to find out more about this final stage of work, and ask any specific questions they might have, at exhibitions being held at B&Q and Asda.

The exhibitions will be held on Thursday between 9am and 10.30am at B&Q in Purbrook Way and between 11am and 2pm at Asda in Larchwood Avenue.

People will be able to find out more about the night time resurfacing plans, which include full closures of the roundabout between 9pm and 5.30am.

The finished scheme will include traffic lights on two approach roads to the roundabout, with the Purbrook Way approach from the A3(M) being upgraded to two lanes in each direction.

There will be new pedestrian and cycle crossings.
