THE date has been set for the switch on of a city centre’s Christmas lights.

Chichester will be lit up on November 24 and organisers promise it will be the biggest celebration the city centre has ever seen.

Throughout the day, entertainment will take place in the main streets, including Mr Alexander’s Travelling Show, Dan the Hat and Nick Stein, who will please and delight crowds with various tricks, juggling and amazing feats of magic.

Music will be provided by The Rock Choir, Petworth Band and various school choirs with traditional Christmas carols. The streets will be filled with stilt walkers, musicians and stalls offering mince pies, sweet treats, Christmas Wreaths and mulled wine.

Father Christmas will be paying a visit thanks to the Chichester Lions.

Roads will be closed from 4pm to 8pm and the Christmas lights will be switched on in West Street, outside the Cathedral, at 7pm.

A firework display will round off the evening.
