A FAMILY firm is celebrating reaching a half-century milestone.

Garner Group Holdings, founded by Maurice Garner, has been running Jet petrol stations in the region since 1961.

In the past 50 years Maurice has run eight difference service stations.

He now owns one in Cosham, near the Portsbridge roundabout, one in Green Lane, Southsea, and one in Bordon.

They are now run by Maurice’s two sons Mike and Tim, and co-director Dave Auger.

Mike said: ‘We are delighted to reach such a milestone with Jet.

‘When my father entered into partnership with the brand 50 years ago, fuel retailing was very different.

‘The early deals made by my father were based on a gentleman’s agreement; contracts were written on the back of a beer mat and sealed with a handshake.’
