THE company behind the annual Hampshire Food Festival has won a regional Countryside Alliance award.

Hampshire Fare received the enterprise award because the festival ‘ticks all the boxes’, according to head judge Sara Rutherford.

It will now go forward to the British finals in a bid to become overall champion.

The Hampshire Food Festival is a month-long showcase of the best Hampshire has to offer.

‘A ten-year-old initiative that every county should emulate, it ticks all the boxes – food and farming, rural life, tourism, health, education, and is an excellent shop window for the county,’ said Ms Rutherford.

‘With over 200,000 people taking part in the 2010 Festival, this is a serious economic and social event, and we are proud to salute Hampshire Fare’s great achievements over its first ten years.’

The finals will take place at the Houses of Parliament on March 30. Hampshire Fare will be up against 11 other regional winners at the event. The month-long Hampshire food festival is run at different venues across Hampshire, and this year’s will be in July.
