Free advice is on offer for people with debts

Debt@Buckland is free service set up by Buckland United Reformed Church. It has eight advisors to help people manage personal debt.

Service manager Cliff Bembridge said: ‘Christmas can be a time when budgets are stretched and people access high cost loans, like payday loan companies and hire-purchase providers, without realising the speed at which they swiftly plummet into serious financial hardship.

‘We are here to try and help residents of Portsmouth to do something and regain control of their finances. This can mean getting debt collection companies off your back and stopping them bombarding you with letters and phone calls.’
