An Indian takeaway in Portsmouth is giving away free meals to raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Shalimar Takeaway in London Road, North End, is holding the fundraiser tomorrow night and will be offering curry lovers one free meal for each order purchased.
On top of that, the business will be donating all takings for the night to Macmillan.
The Shalimar’s owner Iqbal Miah has made the gesture as members of his family have been affected by cancer.
He said: ‘I am hoping people will come along and enjoy an Indian takeaway with us knowing at the same time they are fundraising for a good cause locally.
‘We are hoping as many people as possible will attend.’
All the funds raised will be used by Macmillan to fund vital cancer services for people affected by cancer, from specialist cancer nurses to grants for cancer patients with money problems.
Macmillan’s fundraising manager for south east Hampshire Lisa Murphy said: ‘This is a fantastic contribution to Macmillan locally as all the donations will be used to support people affected by cancer in Portsmouth.
‘Sadly, the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.’
