The future of £6.9m museum is looking uncertain

THE future of a popular museum looks uncertain.

The Novium Museum in Chichester – which opened four years ago at a cost of £6.9m – will be the centre of a debate by cabinet members of Chichester District Council on how it will continue operating.

In February the cabinet was told the council was subsidising the museum to the tune of £832,700 a year.

In 2014 the council scrapped the £7 entrance fee at the Novium as part of a bid to increase visitor numbers.

Two years ago a five-year strategy was presented by museum manager Cathy Hakes, stressing that ‘more development time’ was needed for the museum.
