A GOSPORT businessman has opened a second garage, with a bit of help from a celebrity friend.

Rob Jump has opened the Car Clinic in Dock Road, which is an expansion of his first garage, Auto Repairs and Service Centre in Morelands Road.

Ex-Hollyoaks star Marcus Patric, from Gosport, was on hand to do the official opening – and also had some work done to his car.

He agreed to open the garage because his sister is a regular customer.

Mr Jump, 30, said: ‘I bought the first garage about two years ago and we’ve now got so many customers and got so big we needed to expand.

‘I started the MoT centre and did everything myself, which was tough because I have full custody of my eight-year-old son Josh.

‘I didn’t want to take on any staff until I was established.

‘I took on my first lad in 2009, and now we’ve got four lads and two ladies who work in the office.

‘During the recession I hadn’t been spending money I didn’t need to, but then this unit came on the market and I had to make an offer.

‘The aim is to offer affordable car maintenance to the local community – we do everything, really.’

The new garage has a prime location near the town’s Asda supermarket, which means Mr Jump is already attracting passing trade.

‘It’s just a brilliant location,’ added Mr Jump.

The opening day was also a success.

He said: ‘I just jokingly said to my customer that she should ask Marcus to open it, but she asked him and he agreed.

‘He was really nice, and it was just brilliant to have him here.

‘Roger Allen the Mayor was here as well, and that was great because he has a background in the motor trade having owned a garage in the 1980s.’
