PUNTERS will be in for a few laughs at their local this weekend.

The Rose in June, in Milton Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, is putting on a comedy show under a marquee in its beer garden.

A compere will kick off the event and four comedians will entertain guests after.

They are Sheraz Yousaf, David Tsonos, Matt Price and Jamie Gosney.

The pub holds its ‘comedy under canvas’ evenings twice a year.

Paul Saynor, co-landlord of The Rose in June, said: ‘It has become really successful and the last one we held was great as people were standing outside the marquee just so they could listen to the comedians.

‘It was full.

‘We continue to hold these events because they are so successful.

‘It all started around three to four years ago when we felt we should probably do something different.

‘And we have got the beer garden which allows us to put up a large marquee, which is 14m by 8m and can hold more than 60 people.

‘It’s a comedy club, but a comedy club with a difference, and the comedians seem to really enjoy it.’

Paul added: ‘It’s a bit of fun for the locals and for anyone else who turns up.

‘It gives people a night out that they can enjoy at their local pub – there aren’t really many of them left any more.

‘I don’t think anyone else does a comedy night like ours.’

Tickets in advance cost £12 if you fancy chicken and chips or £7 without food.

Otherwise, tickets on the door cost £8.

Doors open at 7pm and the event will start an hour later.
