HIGH streets in our area have lost out in the second round of bids to become Mary Portas pilot towns.

The government has announced today another 15 towns it has chosen to trial a number of measures aimed at reviving dying shopping centres.

Gosport, North End and Bishop’s Waltham had all applied to try out the scheme, which was put forward by TV retail expert Mary Portas.

The three areas were not chosen in the first round and have not been included in today’s announcement either.
