Gunwharf Quays announces extended opening hours for Black Friday 2018

Gunwharf Quays has announced its extended opening hours for this year's Black Friday, giving shoppers more time to grab a bargain.

The Portsmouth shopping centre will be open from 9am to 9pm on Friday and Saturday.

Normal opening hours are 10am to 8pm on a weekday.

There are deals available at dozens of shops, with many of the offers lasting until the end of this weekend.

Yvonne Clay, senior marketing manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: '˜Those looking to gift big and spend less ahead of Christmas can take advantage of our Black Friday sale this weekend, with all of our stores open until 9pm on Friday November 23 and Saturday November 24.

The shopping centre has also announced extended opening hours for shoppers in the run-up to Christmas.

What is Black Friday? 

Black Friday is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving in America.

It is the fourth Friday of November and it is the start of the Christmas shopping season in the US. 

The name has been used since 1952 - but did not become widely used until the 2000s. 

Retailers often offer sales on Black Friday to encourage shoppers to get out and shop.
