GUNWHARF Quays achieved record sales in the last week of 2010.

The outlet centre’s overall sales were up 22 per cent compared to week 52 of 2009, with an increase in retail of 23 per cent and 18 per cent for leisure.

Around 233,000 customers visited the centre in the final week, 14 per cent more than the previous year.

The most popular purchases at the centre were fashion, office and casual clothing, cosmetics and homeware.

‘Though the snow may have kept people away at the beginning of December, our sales figures show that people definitely came to shop later in the month,’ said Peter Emery, centre director at Gunwharf Quays.

‘Seven-thousand people had a go on the ice rink which was open until early January. It was undoubtedly a draw to visit the centre, along with the offers in the stores and restaurants.’
