Gunwharf teams up with Barnardo's for fireworks show

Betty the Barnardo’s bear was at Gunwharf recently to encourage shoppers to purchase a Barnardo’s flag and be in with the chance of winning a £500 Gunwharf gift card at this year’s Light It Up event.

Flags are being sold at a suggested donation cost of £2, with all proceeds going to Barnardo’s, and each flag has its own number.

The winning number will be picked at random and announced at the free event on November 9.

General manager of Gunwharf Quays Colin Wilding said: ‘We hope visitors to this year’s fireworks extravaganza will give generously for this extremely deserving charity.’

The evening is being hosted by Wave 105 and will feature live music from former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle and 2016 X-Factor winner Matt Terry.

Matt Dalton, sales manager at Leaders in Gunwharf Quays and Southsea, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be involved and to be sponsoring the prize draw.

‘Keep an eye out for some of my team who will be dressing up as Betty the Bear and walk around Gunwharf to promote the flags!

‘We’re hoping to raise around £10,000 for this amazing charity which does so much to help transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

‘We’re really looking forward to being there on the night, with our Gunwharf office staying open late for people to pop in and pick up their flag.’
