Hampshire apprentices take onnational challenge to be the best

They have been planning presentations to schools and colleges, working in charity shops and gearing up for a bold community challenge as part of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge.

The challenge is the search for the apprentice team of the year.

To win, teams from across the country undertake a series of interactive work-related challenges to develop new skills and showcase their employer, by engaging with young people and businesses to promote the benefits of apprenticeships.

In recent weeks they have been preparing for the ‘community’ element of the challenge by helping out in three charity shops that support their chosen cause, The Rainbow Centre in Fareham, and learning more about the charity.

Apprentice Zoe Hughes said: ‘We recently volunteered in The Rainbow Centre’s charity shops in Fareham and Portsmouth.

‘They had some painting and cleaning jobs that they needed help with.

‘We also spent time sorting through donations and hanging clothes ready to be put on display.’

Next month the team are planning a garden makeover for the Rainbow Centre, funded by auction prizes from businesses.
