AN assistant manager at one of McDonald’s restaurants has been named the company’s employee of the year, trumping 97,000 colleagues to scoop the top title.

Milton resident Emma Lamkin, who is 22 and works at the Havant drive-through in Larchwood Avenue, was named the company’s employee of the quarter last year.

The recognition put her in the running for the national award against three other colleagues from around the country.

Emma’s knowledge of the fast food company and experience impressed the judges at three interview stages.

The judges were particularly taken with the work she did to help train 120 crew members when the new Havant store was being set up.

After collecting the prize, Emma said: ‘I’m so pleased to have won such a prestigious award. It is an honour to be selected as the UK employee of the year.

‘Being selected as employee of the quarter was a great achievement and now winning this award is incredible.

‘Working at McDonald’s is rewarding, challenging and enjoyable.

‘I believe if we all maintain the attitude that no task is too difficult, then we can all achieve something great.

‘I’d like to thank all my colleagues, family and the judges.’

As well as the award, Emma received £250 in shopping vouchers and a holiday to Portugal.

Franchise holder Grant Copper, who runs a number of restaurants in the area, said he is ‘absolutely delighted’ that Emma has won the award.

‘Emma is a real credit to us in Havant and it’s a privilege to have someone on board who is so dedicated to providing an excellent service and customer experience,’ he said.

‘It’s fantastic that her hard work has been recognised in such a manner and we are all extremely proud of her.

‘I look forward to following Emma’s career as it begins to take off and I wish her every success in the future.’
