HMS Dauntless has been training with the US Navy in Miami.

The Type 45 destroyer, which has a crew of nearly 200 members, is working with American sailors in south Florida’s hot weather ahead of a deployment to the Gulf next year.

Captain Richard Powell said: ‘We want to make sure that before we send them into the Gulf region, we know how they’re going to perform, how their weapons are going to work, and actually how the combination is. Is it going to be cool enough inside the ship?’

The high-tech warship has been training with the US Navy before leaving to return to Portsmouth tomorrow.

Captain Powell praised his ship’s company, saying: ‘The sailors are absolutely fantastic. They could not be more proud of the ship, they could not be a more integrated team.’
