HMS Queen Elizabeth has been floated for the first time.

The 65,000-tonne vessel, which will be based in Portsmouth from 2017, is due to be released from its dock at Rosyth shipyard tomorrow, depending on weather and tidal conditions.

As The News reported earlier this month, the aircraft carrier was named by the Queen at the Scottish shipyard.

Hundreds of people also gathered for a celebration in Portsmouth, including shipyard workers who worked on part of the ship.

The floating of HMS Elizabeth is the next step towards making her ready for testing in two years’ time.
