Hundreds raised for good cause
MORE than £1,000 was raised for a good cause by a manufacturer of fire detectors.
Staff at Apollo Fire Detectors, in Brookside Road, Havant raised the cash for The Haven Community Centre in Portsmouth.
The donation was the result of fundraising activities at Apollo, including dress-down Fridays, a jumper day and other staff initiatives.
The firm regularly organises charitable activities at its offices and manufacturing facilities, with the charity being nominated by Apollo staff each month.
The Haven Community Centre in Lake Road, which is run by the Salvation Army, was picked for the month of December.
Centre manager Rob Warburton paid a visit to Apollo to pick up the cheque, presented to him by Steve Brown, the managing director.
Mr Brown said: ‘Fundraising for local charities is a long-standing tradition at Apollo. Although we operate worldwide, our roots are in this community and we like to show our support in every way we can.’
The Haven is home to a community café, charity shop, furniture project, Good Neighbours befriending scheme for isolated adults, nursery, training and conference facilities, over-60s club and more.
