AN INDEPENDENT inspection has started today to look at future development and policies in Fareham.

Inspector David Hogger, who chaired the Welborne hearings, started the inspection this morning which will look at the soundness of Fareham Borough Council’s Development Sites and Policies Plan.

The plan looks to see the additional houses built in brownfield sites within Fareham’s boundaries rather than the strategic greenfield sites which developers prefer.

Councillor Sean Woodward, leader of the council, said: ‘We in common with other local authorities are required to make sufficient land available for new housing.

‘Fareham’s Development Sites and Policies Plan is designed to ensure that, in addition to Welborne, development in the borough is directed at largely brownfield sites including in Fareham town centre and within urban areas that would benefit from regeneration.’
