BUSINESSES are being encouraged to check they have plans to manage and recover from fires or floods.

The message has come from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service during Business Continuity Week, which runs until Friday.

The service says there are six key principles to protect firms from any potential problems caused from floods or fires:

n Managing the process

n Understanding the organisation

n Determining a strategy for business continuity management

n Developing and implementing the strategy

n Exercising, maintaining and reviewing the strategy

n Embedding business continuity management into the organisation’s culture
