Support on the Spot, in Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth, now has 15 staff looking after nearly 30 companies, mostly in the recruitment industry, with overseas customers in Dubai, Malaysia and South Africa.

And it now has plans to expand IT provision into the accountancy and legal sectors.

The firm was founded by managing director Nigel Webster in 2009 and it has grown from its operational nerve centre at Portsmouth Technopole.

Nigel, 38, said: ‘We have a good business here and work hard to keep everything running as smoothly as possible for our clients, the vast majority of which are in the UK’s £31.5bn recruitment sector.

‘While we are the go-to IT support provider for this buoyant industry, we are looking to diversify our customer base in the accountancy and legal sectors.

‘We’re grateful to the Technopole for all of its support as we’ve repeatedly expanded on site over six years – nothing has been too much trouble for Pete and his team.’

Pete Outen, centre manager at Portsmouth Technopole, said: ‘Support on the Spot plays a key role in looking after mission-critical IT for staff at recruitment firms in the UK and overseas.

‘What Nigel has achieved to date is impressive and his firm is in keeping with the entrepreneurial ethos which infuses the Technopole.

‘It is also good to see many of the team living within just a few miles of HQ, helping with local employment and internal investment for the city.’

Portsmouth Technopole, owned by the University of Portsmouth, is managed by Oxford Innovation, which runs 24 innovation centres across the country.
