A campaign is calling for employers to let their staff start the weekend early today.Â

It's '˜National 4pm Finish Day' which encourages companies to let people finish an hour earlier than usual '“ to get a head start on the weekend. 

The campaign is the brain child of energy drink company Red Bull, who say it is not about '˜slacking off' but about increasing workers productivity.

A statement on Red Bull's website reads: '˜Drink a Red Bull, nail your To-Do list and get out the door by four.

'˜At Red Bull, we know you work hard. You put the hours in to get the job done.

'˜That's why on Friday, September 14 2018, we want to give you back that extra hour (or more) by finishing early.

Red Bull have surveyed a range of experts including a scientist, an ex-sports star and a range of successful entrepreneurs for tips to help you make sure you clear your in-tray early for a 4pm finish. 

Ex-England international rugby star Rob Vickerman says preparation is key. 

'˜Preparation should always start the day before,' he explained. 

'˜Spend the last 30 minutes in the office making sure you know exactly what the plan of attack is for the following day '“ hit the track running.'

While entrepreneur Ross Bailey says: '˜If you've got a mammoth To Do list, challenge yourself to do each thing in an hour.

'˜I often do this '“ the against-the-clock aspect of it keeps me going and stops me from getting distracted.

'˜The sense of achievement of ticking things off a list, and knowing that you've done them in the allotted time, is really great too.

'˜Doing stuff intensively like this helps me to concentrate and prioritise.

'˜Aim to do everything, but don't be depressed if you can't do it all, we're only human.'
