YOUNG people in the Portsmouth area who are not employed or in education are being offered the chance to get a qualification in horticulture.

Groundwork Solent is offering 16 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification in horticulture.

It is part of the Green Skills Training Programme and will be delivered to 48 people who claim Job Seekers Allowance or Income Support Allowance.

The aim is to help them get back into employment, as well as helping them with English and maths skills and how to write a CV.

They will also be given help in getting a job.

The programme began on April 1 for a year and, if successful, will be extended across the rest of Hampshire.
