PLANS to cut 450 jobs within aerospace and defence firm EADS will be phased in over three years.

It follows the news of a restructuring by the company, which has a base in Hilsea, Portsmouth.

As reported, EADS wants to cut 450 jobs across the UK within the next three years, and is trimming down its number of key bases from eight to three.

Portsmouth has been chosen as one of the three sites to remain under the restructuring, and could actually see more people working there as the other locations are consolidated.

The EADS Astrium centre in Broad Oak, Hilsea employs around 950 people. Other EADS sites in the UK employ thousands.
