THE shelves are being stocked and the keys have been handed over as the building work at Fareham’s new Tesco nears its end.
The store will open at 8am on Monday, November 28.
It comes a week after the new Quay Street roundabout opens, which motorists hope will prevent a build-up of heavy traffic in and out of the town.
Store manager Jon Roberts said: ‘My team and I have been working hard over the last few weeks to ensure we will be able to deliver the best possible shopping experience.
‘I feel confident that we will be able to offer customers a fantastic range of products and services.
‘We’re all looking forward to welcoming our customers and have some exciting things planned surrounding the launch and hope as many people as possible join in the celebrations.’
Tesco has funded the £1.2m project to redesign the roundabout and completing it is a condition of opening the store.
As part of the store’s opening celebrations it has pledged £2,000 to sponsor the Community Stage when the Christmas lights are switched on in the town on Sunday, November 20.
Mr Roberts added: ‘This is one of the highlights of the calendar for the whole community and we all feel honoured to be a part of it. It’s a brilliant family fun day.’
The 49,300sq ft shop has created 187 new jobs.
A total of 83 members of staff have been transferred from other sites and so the 270-strong team can now start stocking the shelves.
After launch day, Tesco will open from 6am on Mondays and remain open for 24 hours a day until midnight on Saturday. It will then open from 10am until 4pm on Sundays.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 4.30pm with a fireworks display and live entertainment will take place from 11am.
