Ellie-Mai Gibbons, from Fareham, was inspired to help The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs to children with cancer.

Her mum Becci Gibbons owns salon Diamond Quay Hair and Beauty Lounge in Fareham.

Becci said: ‘I told my daughter about the charity a few years ago. I explained that young girls who get poorly and lose their hair will finally be able to feel like a princess with a real hair wig.

‘I was so proud that our conversation had stuck in her mind enough to choose to do this. Whenever people stopped her to talk about her hair, she took it upon herself to say that she wanted to grow her hair down to her ankles to then have enough to make two wigs for poorly princesses.’

Last week, after seeing a young girl with no hair in Fareham, Ellie-Mai decided to bring forward her hair cut.

After sharing her story on Facebook, she has received a tremendous amount of messages and support, wishing her well on her adventure.
