John Lewis Knight & Lee and Age UK Portsmouth have teamed up to support members of the local community.

The activity is part of a broader national partnership between John Lewis and Age UK this Christmas to drive awareness and support for lonely older people.

Locally, as part of the partnership, John Lewis shops across the country will be fundraising as well as pairing up with a local Age UK to support a Christmas lunch or social event.

Every shop will also include a local Age UK as part of its Community Matters charity initiative, and 25 per cent of the sale of every Man on the Moon mug and Christmas card will be donated to Age UK.

Age UK Portsmouth will also be fundraising and is calling on local people to get involved and help raise vital funds for local services during the festive season and beyond.

People can support the charity by using their services, volunteering and donating, all of which will help raise awareness.

John Smith, head of the Knight & Lee branch in Southsea, said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting Age UK Portsmouth this Christmas.

‘Through our work together we will be helping to brighten up Christmas for older people who may otherwise face spending the festive season alone.’

Rory Massey, services operations manager at Age UK Portsmouth said: ‘We are thrilled at the support John Lewis Knight & Lee Southsea is providing this festive season.

Loneliness can make life unbearable, however this can be helped by the company and support of others, which many of us take for granted.

‘Now we’re asking people to help us raise vital funds for our services which tackle loneliness throughout the year and are a real lifeline for older people.

‘No-one should feel lonely during the festive season or any time of year and together we can ensure that the older people of Portsmouth have something to celebrate this Christmas.’
