MOTORISTS are being warned they face delays as Southern Water works to fix a collapsed sewer.
From April 10, one lane of the southbound dual carriageway on the A32, Fareham Road in Gosport, will be closed for a week.
A temporary overland pipe has been put in place so customers can still use toilets, sinks, showers and washing machines while the emergency works are carried out.
Traffic management has been planned with Hampshire County Council to minimise disruption while the repair work is done.
Crews will work on site, digging to a depth of up to 10ft, from 6am to midnight to ensure repairs are carried out as quickly as possible.
Councillor Mel Kendal, who is in charge of transport matters at the council, said: ‘These are essential repairs and we are pleased that Southern Water has worked closely with us to agree the working arrangements so that we can keep traffic moving. Obviously there will be an impact on journey times southbound but this is unavoidable and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.’
